i guess there is a silver lining after all.
The silver lining for me is having no fear of public speaking. Giving talks and going door to door has helped me in my political activities.
Now that I am an Atheist Secular Humanist I am a much happier, positive person living life to the full. All because I have shed the shackles of belief in God.
genetic technology has advanced to an unbelievable stage.
what used to be science fiction is now quickly on its way to becoming science fact.
there are fertility clinics that can now diagnose whether your child-to-be has any genetic disorders, allowing you to decide whether or not to abort ahead of time.
All new technology is expensive at first. As time goes on the price drops and it becomes more affordable. Let the rich work out the bugs before the rest of us can be enhanced. It will be a glorious time for the human race.

The US went to war with Britain in 1812 because the British boarded American ships and kidnapped American citizens the British claimed were British deserters. Now the US is doing the same thing.
The present government of the USA is so far removed from the ideals of its' founders that it is beyond redemption. The USA has become tyrannical abroad and despotic at home.

i keep hearing - recently at a circuit assembly and also in the new jan 15th wt the phrase - progressive.. now i know people will argue that the gb are very conservative and not progressive but we (active jws) keep being asked are we progressive?
this is because of all the changes (progression) vs. continuation of the past.
we all know changes have been made and are on the way - some have been announced officially but i truly believe the rank and file are being [prepared for yet more changes - hence progressive as the phrase of the moment.

When the Watchtower uses the word "progressive" it is to give the Witnesses the illusion of moving forward, advancing with ever increasing light.
In politics pragmatism is the way to go. I am a libertarian Republican who thinks that competition and the capitalist free market is the way to go.
A few years ago I saw a panel of Libertarian Party members who had been elected City and County officials. Every one of them said that when they got into office they noticed that political theory and what actually works can be two different things. They were all willing to deviate from the party line when it did not give their constituents the best service for the best money.
